well, i really tought that Slipknot was a group that really liked the rushing on live, part of the madness on stage, but its very tought to everyone to follow on a clear way. Jay indeed was rushing all songs but i think that he could be more on point if they needed. Besides that, Eloy is on point on everything. I liked Jay (and of course Joey albuns) and i think that Eloy can give new songs good ideas. Wath some concerts from them and people will see that sometimes its bad for the o overall band, even seeing that Jay improved. Eloy is a machine. I hope his personal mask resembles an android robot stuff he has an machine tattoo and he is like the "machine messiah"
Eloy revolutionized Sepultura and will revolutionize Slipknot.
As you said, so the stage adrenaline doesn't take over. It just keeps him in the ballpark of the song.
Love the heavy sarcasm
THIS is what I’ve been talking about. THISSSS is what Slipknot’s been missing since Joey’s departure. THE GROOOOOOVE! Jay is a great drummer, but he was NEVER a groovy, a Slipknot-caliber drummer. He only ever played Joey’s songs LIKE Joey, and his songs weren’t ever nearly on the level of Joey’s. Eloy, on the other hand, is so groovy, so talented, that he can make Joey’s song his own while giving the Maggots hope that his own songs will live up to the versatility that Slipknot’s drums are known for. Joey bender genres, blended them perfectly. Jay never could... Eloy, in one song, has already shown he can. I am finally excited for a Slipknot album again!
Beautiful episode, respect to all concerned
He IS the metronome
I'm certainly no drummer so could be a silly question. But, is there a reason you don't test them at the same time?
other than it feeling right in the correct position, would need different cymbal heights and mics which I don’t have so it was quicker to feel it out then go home and listen to each of them
Pure class, as always. thank you
Have you been to Detroit? No joke, better than Nashville
There is a video of him circulating of when he was 14… I think that says it all
Conch watch 2024
Gallows was one of the Reasons i started listening to heavier Music. Grey Britain is still one of my Favs
mate, THANK YOU for introducing me to new music, their new album is amazing!!
Prophetic
Best one yet imo. You seem to be able to draw answers out of guests in a really cool and fun way, even with a badass like Carter. Shame you didn't ask what their dream collab was tho, will have to wait for a rocksound interview for that golden insight
All things aside, you lighting and image quality is amazing ! One of the best I've seen on youtube !
🔥🤰🔥
Such a fun one! I love how you guys go off on all the interesting tangents. Thanks for making my day better by letting me "hang out" with you.
Just listened to the not so new album 😅 it's a groovy masterpiece ❤
Eloy does not use a click. I was his drum tech on his first north American tour. Worked for Jean before him as well. No click
I was a fan of Jay Weinberg back when he was in Against Me, seriously good drummer, but I have seen a few Eloy vids when he gets out of this 16th note metal mentality, which a lot of rock drummers think is all you need to call yourself a drummer. Jay Weinberg has played with The E Street band ‘nuff said, and I was surprised how good his technique was which you can hear much better when he plays single pedal but when it comes to technique the geezer from Sepultura takes it to a whole new level. The last time I saw technique that good he was in ELP.
pretty sure he admitted in a video he made that he uses a metronome......but that just could have been for practice
Slipknot is such a huge act. I would beleive there is a crew member in the back whose job is to be a metronome operator for Eloy. Making live adjustments based on whats happeneing (i.e. surfacing)
This interview was so captivating. Thank you 🤍
Why does the vid go silent at 9:04 ?? Other than that awesome vid, keep it up Reynlord!
I love jay but it was always apparent that he has a bad habit of rushing. I never realized how bad the rushing actually was til that 1st show with eloy..the proper tempo sounded fucking jarring after years of Jays frantic pace..so if the other guys were telling him to slow down or to keep a steadier tempo but jay wasn't able to figure it out, I can understand how that would get him replaced. Also we don't know what the studio sessions with jay looked like.all we see is the finished product and the live shows which is the only gauge we have to judge his performances on..on that level, he IS a frantic rusher, and even tho I enjoy watching live shows with faster tempo especially in a band like slipknot, but I can also see how it might wear thin on the other band mates who may I remind u are 20 years older than jay on average..jay is a young man who may can handle going 100mph on every tour stop! However some of those dudes are pushing 50!! So I get it if they don't wanna play "catch up" with jay every night. Even tho they obviously can and have been doing that! Jim,mick, corey ect may have just wanted a more consistent tempo night in and night out and didn't wanna come off stage purple, dripping sweat and out of breath lol.. some of those drum cams with jay man, homeboy Is SOAKING FUCKING WET by the end, but he's barely touching 30 while the rest of the guys are raising kids that are barely younger then jay lol. So if tempo and timing was the issue I get it. Eloy can keep a steady tempo with or without a click and knows how to be consistent..that dude was a prodigy by 14 years old and jay just started playing when he was 14!! Not alot of ppl may know that jay hasn't been playing the drums for very long when he first joined slipknot!! Atleast not in terms of what u would guess or think. not even 10 years. Jay just had it in his blood and picked up the drums pretty fast..So in that regard he killed it.jay still has alot of room to grow and he learned YEARS of knowledge in his what? 5 or 6 years in knot??
I haven't really listened to Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes in quite a few years, but this was a great one. Probably my favorite.
I’m not very musically skilled but who cares? He sounds great and the music sounds great! If he’s using one, who cares?
Why do people think he’s so much better than Jay? He just sounds like another metal drummer to me.
It’s super easy to figure out…. Just drop the audio into a daw and if it lines up for the duration of the song, y’all are lying
05:19... Well, this aged exceptionally well didnt it?
Dont know y u have less subs than all the other morons. You are10 times more entertaining than anyone.
did not know you played for Dead Swans, that's blown my mind a bit haha
The metronome wakes 15min earlier to calibrates to eloy dude
Craig was on to something back then. Probably never thought that Corey and Clown where Craig Reynold worshippers hihi
Late one year to watch this one, but fuck dude, this was a fun interview with Manuel! If you get another chance in the future, please invite him again. It waz really fun to listen, like you both vibe along and got lots to talk to.
I wanna do some conch watching
Oi Craig, I noticed the hair, it's beautiful. Also the first fest I went to was sonisphere 2011 and one of my fondest memories was watching gallows, at one point they had a circle pit going from the stage to behind the audio desk! It was fucking nuts. It's really nice to hear the transition Frank has made in life and the music he's a part of now is fan-fucking-tastic.
'imagine trying to get someone to mosh for the whole of shrek 2' - challenge accepted.
i searched for this. havened listened to it in years. gj GR
Sabian are way better
I be raw doggin it too bro. Them pills make shit worse.
Has anyone got a link for that acacia strain top??
People said the same thing about Jay
Been a huge fan of Frank since I found Gallows in 2006, but I had no idea Dean was in FC&R. I remember playing with Heights in Worcester in 2010 in one of the smallest basement venues and being a huge fan of theirs, bought multiple shirts and had a sticker on my bass. Glad he continued within music and didn’t give up!
Before we start the video I just wanna say Slipknot and this era don’t need a click they didn’t record the track it has that realistic look rushing and slowdown feel
Literally had no idea who today’s guests were but I watch every episode (I feel bad - sorry guys!) but after watching and being so inspired by the entire podcast I am happily diving into all of their projects! Frank and Dean are perfect guests!! They are so well spoken, and I love the positivity they put out into the world! Thank you for putting out yet another banger episode, having yet again amazing guests on, and being vulnerable and allowing us to share those feelings with you! We’re all rooting for you and your channel, you’re doing great and you’re great at what you do!! 👌🏻
Well, he guessed it
